DHL Express has strengthened its air network with the launch of a new flight connecting Taipei and Leipzig. With the Boeing 777 freighter, the service provides close to 200 tons of weekly capacity – double of the previous arrangement – enhancing both uplift capability and transit times to meet growing shipment demand between Asia and Europe.
The route is operated by AeroLogic, a joint venture between DHL Express and Lufthansa Cargo, with twice-weekly flights between Leipzig and Taipei.
“The launch of this new route not only strengthens connectivity between Taiwan and Europe but also enhances our overall operational efficiency and capacity,” said Samuel Lee, Managing Director of DHL Express Taiwan. “Our continued investment in freighters and dedicated flight routes reflects our strong confidence in the growth of Taiwan and its position in global trade. Through ongoing network optimisation, we are enabling our customers to expand into international markets with greater flexibility.”
The network enhancement also optimises inbound operations to Southern Taiwan. Shipments from Southern Taiwan can be processed and dispatched more efficiently, reducing overall transit time by approximately half a day and enhancing service speed and reliability.
Latest statistics from the IATA show that Taiwan ranked ninth globally in air cargo volume last year. Its exports in key industries such as AI and semiconductors lead the world, with Taoyuan International Airport alone handling a total cargo volume of 2.5 million tons in 2025.
According to the 2026 DHL Global Connectedness Report, Taiwan’s position in global trade has strengthened significantly, with its ranking improving from 36 to 32, driven by surging demand for AI chips, servers, and other high-tech products. Currently, over 60% of shipments to Europe come from the high-tech sector. The new flight is expected to further support this growing demand.
DHL Express continues to invest in ensuring fast, reliable, and high-quality cross-border delivery solutions. The Boeing 777 freighter, the world’s largest twin-engine aircraft, offers the greatest payload capacity and range among all twin-engine freighters. Compared to the Boeing 747, it also reduces carbon emissions by up to 18%, supporting DHL’s commitment to sustainable, low-carbon logistics.
